When you trying to connect SQL server with Windows Authentication via mac, data studio tries to use your mac log in properties and it cannot be the same as the windows server you want to connect to. If you want to log in SQL server via mac with data studio, you need to know a SQL server user and its password. Jul 30, 2017 Docker is a platform that enables software to run in its own isolated environment. SQL Server (from 2017) can be run on Docker in its own isolated container. Once Docker is installed, you simply download — or “pull” — the SQL Server on Linux Docker Image. This is made possible by running SQL Server from a Docker container. Therefore, there's no need to install a virtual machine with Windows (which was the only way to run SQL Server on a Mac prior to SQL Server 2017). Install and Configure Docker. This is a prerequisite for installing SQL Server on your Mac.

Get Azure Data Studio for Windows
This release of Azure Data Studio includes a standard Windows installer experience, and a .zip file. Wow dmg sim.
The user installer is recommended because it does not require administrator privileges, which simplifies both installs and upgrades. The user installer does not require Administrator privileges as the location is under your user Local AppData (LOCALAPPDATA) folder. The user installer also provides a smoother background update experience. For more information, see User setup for Windows.

Upgrade from SQL Operations Studio
If you are still using SQL Operations Studio, you need to upgrade to Azure Data Studio. SQL Operations Studio was the preview name and preview version of Azure Data Studio. In September 2018, we changed the name to Azure Data Studio and released the General Availability (GA) version. Because SQL Operations Studio is no longer being updated or supported, we ask all SQL Operations Studio users to download the latest version of Azure Data Studio to get the latest features, security updates, and fixes.

If you already have Azure Data Studio, or you've never installed or customized SQL Operations Studio, then you can ignore this section.

Here I show you how to install SQL Server for Windows on a Mac using VirtualBox.
The first step is to install VirtualBox and create a virtual machine. VirtualBox is free software that allows you to install different operating systems on your machine. By using VirtualBox, you can install Windows on your Mac (and therefore also SQL Server for Windows).
Once you've created a virtual machine, you can install Windows and SQL Server to that virtual machine.
Here's how to do that.
Once you've completed that, you're done! You'll have SQL Server for Windows running on your Mac. You'll be able to have Windows and Mac running simultaneously, which means you can switch back and forth between Windows and macOS as often as you like.
Can I run SQL Server without Windows?
Yes! Starting with SQL Server 2017, you no longer need Windows to run SQL Server. You can install SQL Server for Linux on a Mac (with the help of Docker). This allows you to run SQL Server on the Mac without having to install Windows.

However, while that's an excellent option, there may be times where you want (or need) to install the Windows edition of SQL Server on your Mac. For example, you might want to connect to your local instance of SQL Server using a local copy of SSMS (which is only available for Windows). Or you might need a feature that isn't included in the Linux edition of SQL Server. In such cases you'll need to install SQL Server for Windows.
